How often should I have my Air Conditioner maintained?
Domestic units that are not in constant use and are used for cooling only generally require one service per year. Units that are in offices should be maintained at least twice per year to keep them running at their optimum level. For server rooms, we recommend at least three service visits per annum. For areas with high levels of pollution or contaminants in the air such as kitchens, hairdressers or workshops, additional service visits are carried out.
Why should I service my air conditioner?
Regular servicing and maintenance keeps your unit running at maximum efficiency, significantly extends the lifetime of a unit and reduces operating costs. In addition, routine maintenance will ensure that the unit qualifies for the full manufacturer’s warranty.
What is the difference between Non-Inverter and Inverter type AC systems?
Non inverter or Fixed speed air conditioning deliver a fixed amount of power via a fixed speed. This means the compressor has to stop and start to maintain the desired room temperature.
Inverter air conditioning system, varies the speed of the compressors, delivering precise cooling or heating power as required. Inverter technology reduces power.
What power source is required for Air-Conditioning units?
For 9000Btu and 12000Btu split units, an external power point 1m or less from the condensing unit is sufficient for an electrical installation. This power point contains a plug top plugged into a 2×4 plug plate mounted into a weather proof slide box. Power can be sourced off a mixed circuit from the internal area concerned.
For 18000 Btu split units and greater, an external isolator mounted into a weather proof slide box connected directly to the distribution board is recommended. This ensures that tripping of the plug circuit breaker when the unit is turned on is minimized. This specific electrical work should be done by a qualified electrician.

Repair or Replace?
If your unit is less than 5 years old, it’s probably better to repair it. If it’s over 8 years old and the repairs are major, consider replacing it. If it’s somewhere in- between, it depends on the remaining warranty period and the price of the replacement parts.
If you are replacing your air conditioner, look for a model with high efficiency and that has no ozone depleting refrigerant. A unit charged with R410A refrigerant gas is a good choice when deciding on a replacement air-conditioning unit.
